This is one of my favorite Hoffman stories, because who wouldn't like to live in a charming little town and be a witch? No girl who grew up watching Bewitched could refuse it. Also, I'm a sucker for big old houses. Why yes, the movie did strongly influence my memory of the story.

Wow. I didn't remember the book at all, just the movie. They are different, but both isd successful in its own way.
