It’s good that more women are desirous of, and able to, choose long-term birth control. Kids are interesting, but I can’t imagine anyone putting themselves through it unless they really want to. Valenti is writing from a similar place, although she had only recently become a mother when she wrote it. I’ve known quite a few people who didn’t need to hands to count from their birthday back to their parent’s wedding day, and I’ve seen a fair number of different responses to that, including a “correction” on a wedding certificate. For those whose mothers are anti-choice I wonder if they take that personally, if they feel at fault for the wedding, especially if the marriage doesn’t turn out well. Of course, I suppose there are an awful lot of children blaming themselves for the divorce that finally happens when the youngest goes off to college.
