This is the story about how a teenager in the 80s discovers that there are other people who are fans of scifi/fantasy, and how meeting them for the first time changes her life. Alternatively it is about getting through overwhelming grief one book at a time. Either way it is brilliant. Or maybe it is about how a good school can improve a student even if the student isn't actually learning anything in classes. Oh, and it's also about how bad parents can wreck your life and how good adults, either related or no, can save it. A very little bit is about cultural and language differences between England and Wales. Utterly brilliant.
