This is one of my other most favorite Francis books. It is utterly devoid of even the semblance of feminism. But it also triggered a random thought: at what point do I stop considering a book "contemporary"? Am I using it to define a book that is set in the time it was published in, as opposed to the future or the past? Or is "contemporary" something I'm going to have to change, dropping books off the shelf when they're twenty or thirty or fifty years old. Obviously there isn't a correct answer, but weigh in if you have thoughts about contemporary stories.
