The Whisper

The Whisper - Emma Clayton

Not quite as gripping as the first book, perhaps because there was so much literal ground to cover. While The Roar had some improbable bits, that was nothing compared to the sheerest fantasy pretending to be science in this one.* So, yeah, I had more trouble sustaining my disbelief. Which meant I was free to be annoyed with an unused part of my brain by things like the bad guys always being referred to by their first and last names. Or the pious tone of the whole thing. Or how the twelve year-old kids are all so good and similar. Or the belief that humans are somehow not animals...

But still, a fun adventure with some elements I really liked (Ralph and Helen, in particular)

I would have liked more flying Pods, though. I love the idea of flying Pods.

* Quadrupeds who appear to have backwards knees don't actually, the knees are just much closer to the body than one might guess, and the backwards part is actually an ankle.
